During the summer months of 1988, three Kinnelon families with a unique vision organized what has become the Jewish Congregation of Kinnelon. At first a social organization, our congregation now offers Shabbat and Holiday worship, Jewish education for children and adults, and encompasses families from Kinnelon and many other neighboring towns.
Within a year of its founding, the group affiliated with the Union for Reform Judaism, retained a part time Rabbi and rented space from St. David’s Episcopal Church. Today, Rabbi Helaine Ettinger is our Rabbi.
For each service, St. David’s sanctuary is transformed into a place of Jewish worship, complete with traveling Ark and two Torah scrolls, one of which survived the Holocaust in Czechoslovakia. Our congregation also has four classrooms, two offices and a reception area in the lower level.
